Your homemade wind generator will basically use the wind turbine blades to propel a generator. If your estimated kW/H usage was say 2 kW/h you will want to have a generator that can put out 3-4 kW/h. You always want to go with a generator that can produce 50-100% more power than you actually use, this way you can account for periods of low wind speeds. There are a couple ways you can obtain a generator.
One way is to build your own generator from scratch. I’m not going to go into lengthy detail on how to do this because there are websites that will go over it in more detail. Basically you need magnets to build your own generator. The more power you need the stronger magnets you will need to get. I recommend using Neodymium magnet’s with a pull force of at least 80lbs. The bigger the magnet the stronger the pull force will be and the more power it will produce. I recommend getting between 24 and 48 magnets in total to start crafting your generator. Then head on over to some sites that offer specific schematics on how to do it.
Another way to obtain a generator is to buy one. Local hardware stores sell gas/diesel generators all the way up to 10kW/h for a reasonable price. I have found many generators online ranging from $250-$600 for some of the bigger generators. You can take one of these and fabricate your own methods on how to build your own home made wind generator.
The final way to build your generator is to use car alternators. You can run multiple alternators in series to create additional power. This would most likely be the cheapest of the three methods because you can goto a junkyard and easily find 5-10 alternators to toy with for under $100.
